Location Information
Detailed Access:
-
Entrance Gate: The museum is unmistakable from the road due to the colossal three-headed elephant statue towering above the trees. It is located near the intersection of Sukhumvit Road and the Kanchanaphisek Expressway.
-
Arrival: From Chang Erawan BTS, you can walk, but the path is along a busy highway. Many visitors prefer to grab a quick motorcycle taxi or the free golf cart shuttle (if operating) from the station area.
Visitor Essentials:
The Highlight: The Three Worlds structure. The museum is designed to represent the Hindu universe:
-
The Underworld (Basement): Displays rare porcelain and antiques.
-
The Earth (Hall): A stunning circular hall with a pink staircase and a massive stained-glass ceiling map of the world.
-
Heaven (The Elephant’s Belly): Accessed via a spiral staircase (or elevator) inside the elephant’s leg, featuring abstract art and Buddha relics in a serene, blue-lit dome.
The Vibe: Spiritual & Psychedelic. It is not just a museum but a functioning shrine. The atmosphere is a unique blend of a solemn place of worship and a surreal art installation. Locals frequently visit to pray and leave offerings of lotus flowers and red water.
Dress Code: Strictly Enforced. As it is a religious shrine, you must dress modestly.
-
Shoulders and Knees: Must be covered. No tank tops, short skirts, or short shorts. Sarongs are usually available for rent or free borrowing at the entrance if you are not dressed appropriately.
Opening Hours: 09:00 – 18:00 Daily (Last entry usually around 17:00).
Rules:
-
Shoes: You must remove your shoes before entering the main building (The Earth level).
-
Respect: Quietness is expected, especially in the “Heaven” section where people are meditating or praying.
-
Offerings: You can buy incense and flower garlands at the designated pavilion outside; do not bring them inside the museum building.
